Subsequent to committee representation to the council regarding the above, the promised meeting with the Environment Agency took place on Great Salterns Golf Course on Tuesday 20th April. In attendance were three representatives from the Environment Agency, representing Portsmouth City Council were Seamus Meyer, (Head of Parks & Leisure Services), Dave Stribling (Course Superintendent) and a representative from the council asset department. Representing Southsea Golf Club was Colin Bartram (Course Liaison Officer) and Terry Healy Portsmouth Golf Centre.

After visiting the areas of the course that were causing concern the consensus opinion was that the problem lay with a blockage in the reed bed immediately in front of the 18th tee so blocking the flow of water into Great Salterns Lake. The council accepted that work was needed in that area and would be initiating a works schedule to that end and also one to clear the silt from the watercourse. (7th, 8th and 9th)

A notice giving greater detail of the council’s plans will be posted when available.
