Green shares first prize with Rico

Portsmouth Golf Centre Professional James Green enjoyed his first ever victory in a Hampshire PGA Order of Merit Pro-Am when he shared first place in the Southsea Golf Club Pro-Am with former Ryder Cup star Steven Richardson.

Both players shot five-under-par rounds of 64 at the Great Salterns course, one shot ahead of South Winchester’s Jonathan Barnes.

It was a real red letter day for local lad Green, a trainee professional at the nearby Portsmouth Golf Centre, and the success further endorsed his reputation as one of the up and coming players on the Hampshire PGA circuit.

For Lee-on-the-Solent’s Richardson the victory continued his recent good form, which included a second place finish in the Shanklin & Sandown GC Pro-Am at the beginning of June.

 
Paultons Ben Johnson and his team of Sam Mendoza, Liam Jinman and Richard Harris won the Pro-Am. Their twenty-one under par score of 117 gave them victory by three shots from Matt Savory’s team of Duncan Burns, Kev Clements and Jason Glensman. A total of 38 teams took part in the Tournament, which was organised by Southsea Club Secretary Roger Collinson.
 

 

Other prize-winners included Peter Hopgood, Kevin Jelley, Alan Blandford, Tony Beevers and Craig Emery.
